What the evaluation covers
Pocket depths around every tooth, measured and recorded — the space between gum and tooth is where periodontal disease is read, and a number written down today is what next year's number is compared against.
Gum recession, tooth mobility and the bone levels underneath, examined in full. Digital X-rays and clinical photographs document the starting point.
What comes out of it is not a verdict but a plan: what is happening, how far it has gone, and what the options are.
Who it is for
Anyone whose dentist has seen pocketing, bleeding or bone loss and wants a specialist opinion. Most people arrive by referral.
Anyone who has noticed their gums bleeding, receding or feeling different, and would rather know than wonder.

What you have noticed, what your dentist has seen, and the medical history that bears on treatment.
Examination
Pocket depths recorded around each tooth, with recession, mobility and the state of the gum tissue.
Imaging
Digital X-rays and clinical photographs, to see the bone and to document where things stand today.

What was found, what it means, and the options — explained here rather than posted on afterwards.

You will be told what the evaluation costs before it is booked, and what any treatment arising from it would cost before it is agreed.

01Do I need a referral?
No. Most people come through their dentist, but you can book an evaluation directly.
02Will treatment happen on the same day?
Usually not. The evaluation is about establishing what is there and agreeing a plan; treatment is scheduled after that, so nothing is decided under pressure.
03Does the examination hurt?
Measuring pockets involves a fine probe around each tooth. Where gums are inflamed it can be tender, and you should say so — it changes nothing about what is measured.
04What if nothing is wrong?
Then that is the finding, and you have a documented baseline to compare against in future. That is a useful result, not a wasted appointment.
